[But Dhaos has already given up in his heart, and the persona won't let him forget it.]

[She can think whatever she wants. He's too tired of this to argue with her.]

Oh, I always will. [And she smiles up at him.]

[Dhaos looks down at her for a moment, and then back out the window.

It could be worse. He could have died without ever telling anyone.]

[He really should tell Grune someday. At the moment, she has no idea. ...Not that it would change things much for her.]

[Winona made it that far. Grune may hear it yet.]

[And someday even later, she may even hear about the impossible task she's volunteered for. Not that that would change her mind about helping him, either.]

[You really are too good for Dhaos, Grune.]

[She wouldn't agree with that at all.]

[And that probably contributes to Dhaos' conclusion.]

[He'll never convince her of that, no matter how much he tried.

She just keeps watching the view out Dhaos' window. He's so lucky to be able to see everyone coming and going all the time.]

[That's another advantage of living on the sixth floor of CH3-- in addition to being alone, he can see over a fair amount of the village. Including, as it happens, House 34.]

[She looks up and smiles at him.] You're welcome. I'm very happy I could help you.

Mm. I know.

[It's probably a good thing, too-- at the very least, Dhaos does not feel as though he is a burden on Grune.]

[She looks up at him for just a moment longer, then returns her gaze to the window. Once again, her head leans against his shoulder, just a little.]

[...Grune is Dhaos' only true friend in Luceti. Everyone else is merely an acquaintance, not someone who would go with him to an amusement park or keep him company at home.

Knowing that, he doesn't mind just looking out the window with her like this, really.]
