[For all her efforts, however, there is no way Grune can conceal the fact that suddenly there is no longer a warm body lying next to Dhaos.

Dhaos stirs, reaching for the empty space where Grune was just a few moments ago. He does not yet have the presence of mind to realize that anything besides the sudden change in temperature is wrong, but he has never been one to sleep very deeply.

He mumbles incoherently before Grune gets very far.]

[She stops.

For a moment, just a moment, she's still and listening to the sound of his voice.

Then she starts walking again, quicker than before.]

[Quicker means louder, unfortunately, and while Dhaos is rather out of practice with responding quickly to noises in his sleep, it is still enough to bring him to consciousness.

Dhaos is greeted by the sight of half a bed that has very obviously just been vacated, and even as slow as his mind is working right now, he still thinks to sit up and search for the missing occupant.

His eyes alight on Grune, and he stares.

[When she reaches the door of his room, she stops to close it behind her as quietly as possible. She doesn't notice his eyes on her.]
