[Grune, Norma-- why is everyone suddenly getting kidnapped? All at once? It was an entire year before Dhaos witnessed the kidnapping of anyone he paid attention to other than himself, and then within the space of a month, there were two. It calls to mind something he heard a resident once say over the journals; he can't recall who it was (though he recalls not thinking much of the person in question), or in what context, but the message stuck in his mind:

The second year is the hardest.

...Along with several other comments about how half-year residents are more optimistic. But anyway, it certainly does appear to be proving true, in Dhaos' case.

This train of thought leads Dhaos to realize that there is one other person he cares for that appears to be missing in action. It's a long way from CH3 to House 8, so feel free to catch him on the way over! ~~And by now it ought to go without saying that he is randomly stargazing somewhere at night.~~]

[Grune somehow manages to beam even more as she takes his arm and cuddles up close.]

Where should we go first?

[Dhaos does a little token shift of discomfort, but he's far too used to it to be bothered.]

...I have no destination in mind.

[Yes he does, but he's not taking Grune with him to Yuan's place.]

Well, maybe we could walk around the village a little. Or visit the special garden! The flowers there look very nice now.

[Like the crocuses they planted together for Stella. They've been blooming away for a couple of weeks now and looking very beautiful.]

...I have not seen the garden in some time.

[Yes he has, but not up close. This is about as close to a suggestion as Grune is getting, but he knows she won't mind.]

Oh, then let's go there. Maybe we could even help it out a little.

[Gardening with Dhaos--could life get any more wonderful than this?]

[Life is good, what is this. At least Dhaos might be able to get some mild irritation in at being forced to garden before the day is done.]

[Until Grune beams at him and makes it all better.]

Oh, yes. It's very important to help the garden.

Yes, there are always lots of things to do, like make sure the flowers have enough water and sunlight and aren't too crowded. And there are lots of flowers and trees that need to be uncovered from their winter sleep.

...It has always seemed to me that plants usually find their own way to survive.

Hmm.... Yes, but they still like being looked after. [She smiles.] Just like people.

...You would know better than I.

[She nods.]

They do. And I like looking after them.

[The same way she likes looking after people--or a certain person.]
